Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day to everyone! I know I've been MIA for most of the year, but it was for a good reason. I now earn all my income from writing, and I've been busy. It's been my dream since I was a kid. That's the good news-the bad news is that I earn 70 per cent of that income from copywriting for businesses, not erotica. But that's OK-it beats working at Wal-Mart or temping as a receptionist anyday! I'll be adding more content to the site and to my Slums Off Hollywood Blvd. blog in the next few weeks..

xoxo

Happy Year of the Pig! Well, actually tomorrow is the first day of the Chinese New Year. People born in the Year of the Pig are supposedly very lucky, so many Chinese make an extra effort to have babies during the Year of the Pig. I dunno about that luck part-I was born in a Pig year, and sometimes I don't feel so lucky..
Not sure how lucky I'll be this year, but I am very busy. Working on a non-fiction book about-what else-music & the usual erotica manuscripts. And I'm going to South By Southwest this year. I figure I've been to every other big-deal music trade show, might as well go to SXSW. Will be conducting interviews, reviewing shows, and probably downing a lot of free booze.

Check the non-fiction page for links to new reviews. I have a few excerpts up on the erotica page, including one of my favorite new poems, "You Rattle My Heart." I keep rereading the damn thing, guess cuz it has deep emotional importance to me. I've always been partial to tear-jerkers. I better get some more lustful stuff posted soon to counteract that. For day to day info, visit me at MySpace

I even have a snazzy (there's a quaint Midwestern word for you) new layout-skulls with pink pseudo-Mohawks.

Well, it's nice (not) to discover things haven't changed much in the "Writers Wanted" ads on Craigslist. Wanna-be publishers and e-zine editors just get snottier and dumber. I complained about this 2 years ago on this very blog, and now, an entire blog-
http://craigslistcurmudgeon.blogspot.com/
is dedicated to exposing the brain-dead meglomaniacs of the faux-publishing world.

Wanna see a really obscure music video from the 1980s featuring a fake all-girl metal band (I'm the bass player) and the late, great El Duce of the Mentors? It's on YouTube...

I have been remiss in updating this weblog, I know. Been regrouping as they say, working on new fiction and erotica, but enjoying and savoring it instead of rushing through it. If you can’t enjoy writing erotica, what’s the point? Did get some nice feedback about “Geneva’s Story”, a BDSM story featured in “Seduced And Abandoned.” A reader said it reminded her of one of her masters and brought back pleasant memories. Erotic stories can be poignant and hot, or they can be pointless and prurient. Hey, both m.o ’s work for me, though I prefer the latter.

Please God, make it stop--Rolling Stone mag reality show in the works. Yeah, right, they are going to focus on the journalistic merits of potential cast members. I'll believe it when I see it.

There's also some info about new DVD and film releases and links to various gossip and shenanigans.

Now, usually my inbox is filled with lighthearted kookiness, but I must share this lovely bit of advice for frustrated creative types. Surprisingly enough, it originated with one of my desperate housewife friends..It reads, in part,
"Use those feelings! Put them to good use to drive your creativity forward..Use it all. Use the anger, use the longing, use the passion that is burning but has yet to be sated. It's better than indifference...isn't it?"

Happy Fiday the 13th. New "Slums off Hollywood Blvd." column about my experience as a "dinner whore." (or as a poor working girl who had to get a decent meal anyway she could, depending on how you look at it.) This has been pegged as the latest social phenomenon by the NY Post, but its been going on forever..

2005 was such a good year for me, I'm kinda sad to see it end. Well, it was the Year of the Cock, so that was good luck right there. By the way, that's one word I'm getting sick of. Between writing erotica consistently for 5 years and doing erotic podcasts, I need more variety. How about alternating between "knob" and "Mr. Happy?" Think that'll work?

2005 Highlights--

Actually earned decent money writing for businesses and professionals. I'm talking about real writing for real companies, not writing a press release for a metal band and getting paid in beer and Cheetos. I even got a check the other day when I wasn't expecting one!

Traveled to New York twice. Met up with old friends and made some new ones, did work for Computer Divas and reaquainted myself with my favorite city in the world. (Not that I would ever LIVE there again.) New York is great for invigorating the mind and the spirit. And, after a few days there, I am reminded that it's OK to be a politically incorrect bitch! In L.A., I'll say that someone "isn't my cup of tea." My NY friends dislike this wimpy terminology. "Not my cuppa tea? Listen, you're not in pansy-ass L.A. now, you can say it. The guy's an arrogant, talent-free ass-kissing jerk. Save the impotent twaddle for L.A." Aaah, New Yorkers, ya gotta love 'em.

Attended my brother's wedding in suburban Chicago. I even read a few verses from the Bible at the wedding. Every time I go back to a Catholic church, it's surreal. 'Course, the church is nothing like it was when I was a kid. They even had a hip young priest who greeted us for rehearsal in jeans and a causal shirt.

Had three books published. "Broken Rose"-erotic poetry. "Seduced and Abandoned"-erotic short story collection, and a reprint of "Close, But No Pizza", my poetry book from my early 80's punk rock days.

Began doing podcasts with my friend Michelle. Since I occasionally burp on the air, I suppose I would be Jonesy to her Mr. Shovel...

Brushes with Greatness.
-Got a response to a fan e-mail I sent to my favorite author, Mary McGarry Morris. She is best known as the author of "A Dangerous Woman", which was made into a movie starring Debra Winger. In my opinion, her best book is "Vanished", the story of a 16 year old female delinquent who kidnaps a mentally challenged man and a 2 year old girl and takes them on a bizarre journey through white trash New England. The novel is riveting and heartbreaking, and it's one of the few "serious" books that has received praise from director John Waters.

-Saw Morrissey at a screening of "New York Doll" in June. Of course, I acted very non-chalant about it til I got home, where I flapped around the carpet joyously like a carp out of water for a minute or 2.

-Yes, I did meet Jonesy and Glen Matlock at the Philistines show a few weeks ago-and it was my birthday. Best birthday present I ever had..

Wrote reviews, conducted interviews, slaved over articles, paid and unpaid, for websites, blogs and print magazines. Fave interview- heavy metal professor Deena Weinstein.

Spent plenty of quality time with/or talking over the phone with my favorite people-Troy, Cathy, April, etc. and with Dax, the dumbest of cats.

Found out a "dead" ex-boyfriend wasn't dead, but alive and well and writing about his escapades in the East Village in the '70s and early '80s

And..having obliterated most (but not all) of the "grasping" and "attachment" in my life, I am now officially a Buddhist.

So 2005 was a good year. Here's hoping 2006 will be ever better. Have a great New Years everyone..

Everyone have a wonderful Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwaanzaa/Winter Solstice. Oh, well, I'm a bit late for the solstice, but you get the idea.
Drive safe & don't drink too much spiked eggnog!!

Look for new Jadeblackmore.com updates after Jan. 1st. Also, my audio interview with the curator of NYC's Museum of Sex is up at Whispered Pearls.com.

Well, the past few weeks have been a vertible whirlwind of activity. It all started with the Paul McCartney concert at Staples Center on 11/29. (My review is at http://slumshollywood.blogspot.com/2005/12/you-look-just-like-little-kid-are-you.html
The next night I saw Red Lightning (fronted by Morrissey guitarist Alain Whyte) at the Knitting Factory. Great band! If you like your rock music intelligent but unpretentious and accessible, you'll like Red Lightning. Their website is redlightningmusic.com.
Then I spent the first week of December in NYC, doing work for Computer Divas, shopping at all my old haunts and making a trek to Strawberry Fields and the Dakota. Also saw X play at Roseland, interviewed John Vollmer, the curator of the Museum of Sex, for Whispered Pearls, had lunch with Brett Smiley and his guitarist Errol, saw Sal Maida & Lisa Burns (with special guest Annie Golden) play a short set at a small, soon to close CD store on the Upper West side. All this while battling the flu. (I finished whole bottle of Theraflu in 3 days.) And I was staying in lovely Flushing, so I took the #7 train back and forth a half dozen times. You remember the #7 train. John Rocker, the baseball player got in trouble for criticizing the train's diverse ridership. I've never had a problem with thte 7 train. From Main Street to Times Square in 40 minutes.
Attended the Indie103 Christmas Office Party the other night. THe Like & Giant Drag played. The Like and Annie from Giant Drag are friendlier, more melodic versions of the '90s riot grrls. And they share a twisted sense of humor, which is always good.

I'm back from my first (& hopefully last) foray into jury duty. Spent 3 days on a case that never should have gone to a jury trial. However, the other jurors were cool & the judge looked like Terri Nunn. (This is L.A., after all). Also, Hugh Hefner was testifying at another trial in the courthouse along with some of his Playmates. Bet there were a lot of people hanging out in the hallway by that courtroom!

Went to the podcast convention in Ontario last weekend. Will have an article on that shortly..
