I'm back from my first (& hopefully last) foray into jury duty. Spent 3 days on a case that never should have gone to a jury trial. However, the other jurors were cool & the judge looked like Terri Nunn. (This is L.A., after all). Also, Hugh Hefner was testifying at another trial in the courthouse along with some of his Playmates. Bet there were a lot of people hanging out in the hallway by that courtroom!
Went to the podcast convention in Ontario last weekend. Will have an article on that shortly..
Exact URLs for my podcasts with Michelle:

My new entertainment/music zine is up at:

I'll be adding content every day, including contests and giveaways, starting next week.

*Quick update*--it appears that the Suite101.com site has blocked me from editing my Rock Music topic, and the Quirky site is gone completely. If this has been caused by something other than a technical problem, I'll have to start a new music section here on Jadeblackmore.com. Come to think of it, that would probably be an improvement, since I'm unable to post many graphics on the Suite101.com site and there are restrictions on formatting and word count. On this site, as you know, I can just go hog-wild! And I'll even add a message board, how about that!! But if you guys spam or misbehave, I'll have to get my paddle out..

Thanks to everyone who listened in or sent questions to Jewel's Way last night. I had a blast talking with Jewel and reading one of my poems. (We had a chuckle during the break cuz I had to scramble around to find a PG rated poem that I could read on the air!) The interview will be archived on Jewel's Way for three months-- www.jewelsway.com.
Is it March yet? I haven't looked forward to a new album so much in years..
Morrissey is mixing his next studio album in Rome with producer Tony Visconti..

In the past few weeks, I found out that my dead ex-boyfriend wasn't dead, met many cool rock 'n' roll people, saw the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs (so loud they almost blew my eardrums out), Dead Can Dance, Camp Freddy, the Johns at the Punk Rock Social & some other show I can't remember. Got involved in many more business projects, had a horrifying time at a shopping mall ..(Dawn of the Dim, let's call it.) Had my eyes checked and I need....reading glasses!!! Of course, all my friends are squealing "I wanna see you in your reading glasses. I bet you look adorable!!" Do they have ones with leopard print frames?
It's really hot here in L.A. AARGH!!! Al Yankovic reading the Jim Morrison section from "I'm With The Band" at Pamela Des Barres's book signing at Book Soup!! Is that priceless or what?(I am listening to Miss Pamela & Jonesy right now) In a related note, I now have a direct link to my interview with Cynthia Plaster Caster on the Non-Fiction page.

So, yesterday about 12:30 the lights go out, then 2 minutes later they come back on. This was amazing to me cuz when the lights go out in this God-forsaken part of Hollywood, they stay out for awhile. About twice a year we have a good, long blackout in these parts. "The hell with this," my BF sez, and we drive to Burbank. Once we get there, the traffic lights are out. A cop is calmly directing traffic. Then we turn on the radio. Oh no, lights are out all over the city. Is this a terrorist attack? No, according to authorities, some schmuck cut the wrong cable and caused 50% of the city to blackout for a few minutes to a few hours. It sounds pretty goofy to me, but who knows? Hey, if it really was a worker mistakenly cutting a cable, who needs terrorists -- we can do ourselves in! I have to say, everyone I saw in Burbank seemed pretty calm about the whole thing. Maybe as a society, we've been bombarded with so many tragedies lately we just accept it and deal with it instead of panicking. Speaking of preparing for tragedy, went to SOS Survival today and bought a 4 person survival kit and a turn-off wrench for the water heater. Didn't splurge on the freeze-dried beef stew though. I guess when the big one hits it's gonna be power bars and cracker around here for awhile.
From Newsweek Online
"I'm An Artist, But I'm Not The Starving Kind"
And that goes for writers too. I'm tired of idiots starting up magazines and saying "we'll give you a byline and publish your work!!" like it's payment. It's not!! That's why I waited til I had financing to start my own print magazine. (More on that later.) I was not going to treat other writers the way I'd been treated for so long.

In all the commotion of the past week, I forgot to mention that I saw the 2York-sorry-New York Dolls at Sunset Junction last Sunday. They were fantastic! Did Pills, Trash, Personality Crisis, Subway Train, Mystery Girls etc. The crowd went crazy when David walked out on stage. I gotta tell you, for a geezer he is still a charismatic frontman. I could barely take my eyes off him. And he's almost as skinny as Scott Weiland. Did quite a bit of crotch thrusting during some of the songs, too. They even did a new song "We're All In Love(???)" David introduced "Piece Of My Heart" by saying "Of all the bands who were influenced by the Dolls, Big Brother and The Holding Company did the best job." Smart ass! Sylvain sang the first verse of Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory and dedicated it to Johnny and Arthur. The band was in great spirits and the guitar player Steve Conte(???) looked and sounded like Johnny..minus the heroin, of course.

New Orleans is gone. Washed away forever. Sure, they'll rebuild, but it will never be the same. I lived in the French Quarter and Marigny in 1995. Let's just say it was the most "interesting" year of my life, my own personal version of "A Confederacy of Dunces." New Orleans was a unique, vibrant city, despite its poverty and all its other problems. All of the people I knew in New Orleans moved to other places long before Katrina, except for one friend who fled the storm and is now safe in Lafayette.
Please donate to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army or any other reputable organization. As for the TV coverage, the looters, and all the political bickering about what could or could not have been prevented, Foamy the Squirrel speaks for us in his "live report" --
