I'm sitting here staring at the radio in utter astonishment cuz Dickie Barrett just played "Belly Of the Whale" by Burning Sensations AND THEN he played "Lucky Number" by Lene Lovich. Just when I thought Indie couldn't spring anymore musical surprises on me..
Speaking of surprises, whaddaya think about the series finale for "Lost?" The scene where Walt was taken away by the people on the boat was downright scary-and what's the deal with the Monster? It sounds like some antiquated roller coaster.

Tomorrow is L.A.'s mayoral election. It's not even a "lesser of 2 evils" situation. It's worse than that. To quote George Kennedy at the end of "Earthquake"-"This was a great city...once."
Just finished another press release after a spiffy day of reading non-fiction ("Lollipop Lounge" by Genya Ravan and one of the most depressing books ever written "The Other Hollywood:The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry" by Legs McNeil & Jennifer Osborne), and editing romance novels. Had a lovely lunch at Taix (Louisiana catfish) did yoga, housework and counseled a friend who may or may not be going through menopause(!!!)
Saw a rockin' show at the Knitting Factory on Friday-Fu Manchu, Big Elf and the Chelsea Smiles. Good show, but nothing can top the fond memories I have of seeing Atomic Bitchwax, Electric Frankenstein, and Raging Slab at the Continental in NYC in '99. Also interviewed Deena Weinstein, the author of "Heavy Metal: The Music & It's Culture." The interview will be posted shortly.. A fitting metal-oriented Friday the 13th...

Got back from my brother's wedding in Chitown a few days ago-the ceremony was beautiful and no, they didn't play "Proud Mary" at the reception, but you haven't lived til you've seen a bunch of 60 year old church ladies do the Electric Slide. Did I ever mention my brother & his wife met through Match.com? They should do a commercial for 'em. Also,I had a good view of the transmitting tower for the local ABC station from my hotel room window. Yes, I stayed at a Hilton hotel-checked for a Bible in the desk drawer, but found Conrad Hilton's biography..

Why is it that legitimate freelancers, promoters, publicists and other show biz types WHO LIVE IN L.A. have a hard time getting studio people to answer an e-mail, but some schlub from Milwaukee who lives in his Mommy's basement can get through and defraud the studios and innocent people who thought they were giving money to a charity....

Hmm, Jessica Simpson and Johnny Knoxville- seems like a perfect match to me. Maybe they could double date with Britney and Kevin.

I came to the realization last week that one of my best friends is an SUV driving, Starbucks drinking, cell phone talking, plastic surgery addicted soccer Mom. Now there's absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you admit it. And she won't!!! She thinks of herself as some kind of free spirit. Can you be a desparate housewife and a quirky goddess at the same time? I mean you'd have to give up either the SUV or the Starbucks to do that. Drink some green tea. Drive a mini-Cooper instead.C'mon, get creative!

Was at the Desmond Dekker show at the Knitting Factory last night. It was a blast to hear "The Israelites" live. It was the last song, of course...then I take a cab home ($12 for a $7 cab ride. Thief!!) When I get home I find out the car's transmission blew up... In work-related news, April and I are recording a radio show/Podcast sampler when I'm in Chicago, the Divas are getting a grant & I have such a backlog of articles to finish its not funny. Got a migraine Monday after spending six hours Sunday night finishing up product descriptions for a website. Hey, at least, I'm too busy to get into trouble..

P.S. Bought a lovely white sparkly bra with pastel appliques at VS and a push up black bra with cute black vinyl straps. Darling!1

BTW, got my eyebrows waxed today. Looks good, not Marilyn Manson-esque at all. Got a few outfits chosen already for the photo shoot, & a photographer, now all I need is a good makeup person and it's time to go!! Also, I'm trying to figure out what to wear to my brother's wedding. "Wear black," sez Troy "You're the devil spawn of the family." Smart-ass. Gonna be staying at a HILTON hotel while I'm back in the Midwest. April and I will be hanging out for a day or so. Maybe we'll bump into "Fred Garvin, male prostitute" in the hotel bar.

Another tragic cell phone and car story. From an article in the Chicago-Sun-Times:
A Chicago public school teacher who taught young children for more than 20 years was struck and killed by a Metra train Wednesday after plowing through lowered crossing gates while talking to her husband on a cell phone, officials said.
"She drove her car through the gate, breaking it, and was struck by the oncoming train. She was killed instantly," Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said. "Sadly, [her husband] was on the scene immediately. She was speaking to him on the phone, and he apparently was on the other side of the tracks.
"This is so tragic. Every indication is that she was too heavily distracted. That is a problem with cell phones."

Just caught the debut episode of Pammy's new sitcom "Stacked" and I liked it. Good characters, cute premise and Pam looks great. Not overly made up like an East Village drag queen. How long it'll last is anybody's guest.
Yesterday, Troy and I went out for some scrummy Mexican food (and Mexican coffee) at El Compadre, then ventured east to go to Amoeba. Well, Sunset was roped off by the cops between Vine and Cahuenga. Seemed some genius tried to rob the Wells Fargo. Of course, the fact that the field office for the FBI was next door may have contributed to the robbery being foiled so quickly.
"I GOT SAL IN THERE!!"

New smut-well, not really, it's an erotic horror excerpt from "Third Rung of Hell"
There are hundreds of self-improvement books/how to make it in show biz books written every year. Most of them are fluff, but I think this gal (a writer for the New York Post, no less) has summed up the basic tenets of how to lead a fufilling life with this Top 10.. #7 is the one that trips up, most people. If I may add my two cents, it's the people who are LESS than you that will put you down and trip you up. So NEVER SETTLE.
