OK, just came across this story in the Chicago Sun-Times. Keep in mind that the people involved are doctors. This sounds suspiciously like a former episode of "The Practice", though.

The power was out in our (very) humble abode from 7 p.m.yesterday to 6 this morning.Yes, the power's back on, but the huge gaping hole in the ceiling over the back stariwell hasn't been fixed yet and it's been a few weeks. I've had more considerate landlords in Louisiana!! C'mon!

I'm such a goodie-goodie, I resisted the urge to look at Paris Hilton's phonebook. But then again, I already have Fred Durst's phone # (only kidding!!!Scared ya, didn't I?) See gawker.com or defamer.com for all the Paris hacked!! details.

The phone book page was loading up and I just couldn't do it. This is particularly naive of me, cuz you know Paris is gonna milk this for all it's worth. Remember in the old days (60s,70s,80s, maybe even the 90s) you actually did something tangible-singing,dancing,acting, writing, directing a non-porn film- and THEN you became famous. Now you're famous first and THEN you PRETEND to sing, dance, act, write.

Saw the documentary "Inside Deep Throat" last night and it was very entertaining. It was interesting to see what happened to all the major players in the production as well as the prosecutors who tried to banish the movie. I especially liked the comments from Dr. Ruth, Norman Mailer & Dick Cavett. ("You know, I've never seen the movie...can you arrange a screening..NOW?) A complete review T/K on Rock Confidential.

Intelligent Music Versus Big Dumb Rock: A Moral Dilemma

The tale of my musical Schizophrenia. Inspired by the emotional browbeating I took from many of my friends after I had the audacity to attend and enjoy a Velvet Revolver concert last year...

Before I get into my Chicago trip report, I have to vent, albeit in a cryptic way. Stalkers are not funny. Ask Sheryl Crow. A person who does not wake up and smell the coffee at some point is damn scary. One of my friends had a stalker who didn't stop his phone and e-mail harassment for years. Didn't matter that she was married and had a kid. Stalkers are not funny. I have only met one such person in my life-and not via the Internet and not because I write erotica. Scary, but I'm not scared.I AM PISSED OFF.

So onto my trip report. The FAR suburbs around Chitown are not my cup of tea. New cookie-cutter subdivisions filled with faux mansions. Plastic strip malls and a church or two. More subdivisions, strip malls, churches. No sidewalks. No gathering places in plain view. Too sterile for me. Monday I did go downtown, which was fun. Drank at Miller's Pub (close by was a framed pic of Mayor Daley, Jr.), had coffee at Jacque's in the Palmer House, and April and I did our comedy routine as we purused the products at the Wabash Ave CVS. I walked from the Metra Station to Michigan Avenue and back, not to mention survived two take-offs and landings, so I guess I'm over my fear of going out in public. Except when I have to cross the street in Hollywood, that's still a mite troublesome..

For the first time since October 2001, I'm getting on a plane. Yes, I'm going to cooler climes for a few days (Chicago) and I'll be sure to enjoy a libation or two at Harry Caray's. It will be weird to see clean, white bread suburbs after 5 years in the slums off Hollywood Boulevard. And they eat meat there-lots of it. "So what should we make for dinner," my brother asks "pork chops or steak?" Those words sound so alien to me. "Oh that's right, you're in California. You don't eat meat. We'll make pasta and salad."
In publishing news, my erotic short story collection "Seduced And Abandoned" is slated for publication by Renaissance E-Books. I'm busy with business PR work and fixing, at a snail's pace, a few novel manuscripts. Also doing pre-production on a TV show which will feature interesting women who have or are starting their own businesses. If you interested in appearing in a segment, e-mail me at jade@jadeblackmore.com. It's strictly PG rated stuff, so no strippers, escorts, porno girls or dominatrixes. I know, that writes off 75% of the women in Hollywood. Ha Ha!! But not really. The studio portion of the show will be taped in New York.

I HATE THE INTERNET!! I battled a spyware infection this weekend and boy, am I pissed! But it's solved now. Luckily, I've never had my entire hard drive erased by a virus like a few of my friends...I will be flying to Chicago in a few weeks to visit family, and yes, I will try very hard to see "Spamalot, though it's more likely I'll see it in New York. I will be working on a TV show there in the spring, and we'll see if I have any of the hardened New Yorker left in me, or if I am now officially a laid-back Californian...Also got a DVD of one of my favorite movies, "True Romance"..... the scene between Christopher Walken's mafiso character and Dennis Hopper as Clarence's smartass cop father is a classic! And Brad Pitt is spot-on as a stoner--

The problem with most rock critic Top 10 lists is that they list one or two albums that real people have actually heard of; the rest of the choices are totally obscure. I didn't follow that M.O. this year. All these albums, except for the Bees, are well-known.

Christmas greetings to everyone from Hollyweird. Thank God 2004 is almost over! Don't know about everybody else, but it was the WORST year of my life (with 1996 and 1986 taking second & third), the terribleness only abating at the beginning of December. 2005 will be much better--it has to be. Troy and I are having Christmas dinner at home. It's safer and less problematic that way.

In writing news, I've been working on PR and copywriting projects, and I love it! Who'da thunk it? Of course, I did manage to review CDs/DVDs by the Residents and Goldfrapp in my spare time.
Great Residents photos at http://www.gianteyeballs.com/photos1.htm
I like the one of them reading the newspaper.

In website news, I disabled the messageboard, though it may come back at some point. Changed a few links in the non-fiction and erotica sections. Working on a few erotica/fiction projects, including a short story compilation. And my poetry e-book is out, a perfect last minute Xmas gift:

Finally getting back to business after a few days of either the "mini" flu or perhaps a combination of migraines, nausea, exhaustion and just feeling blah. Managed to get back to normal at 9 p.m. last night and make a run to Amoeba to buy copies of "Glitter From The Litter Bin" and "Zolar X." I think the Zolar X album cover will be my new screensaver. You can't deny the appeal of a buncha guys with platinum hair, Spock eyebrows and antennae. Then today I went to a spiffy (not) software demo for a business writing project, came home, finished up a press release, conferred via long-distance about various Divas projects, made notes on an erotica rewrite, and now I'm finishing up a music column. So everything's back to normal. Oh, I bid on a Chi Machine on Ebay today and noticed the seller's screen name was Leobatfish. For ten bonus points, that moniker is gleaned from what obscure 70s movie?

You know, for years I worked in publishing, and being in the editorial/production/sales part of the industry was tiresome and sometimes unhealthy. However, that was nothing compared to the pressure the poor folks at the PRINTER were under. Can you imagine making sure everything was set up perfectly and having the wrath of countless publishers upon you for the slightest mistake? Now several high-profile writers are calling attention to the plight of the workers at printing plants in the U.S.
