Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of "Disco Demolition", that surrealistic night at White Sox Park that featured disco records being blown up in centerfield between games of a doubleheader, torrents of kids dressed in black concert T-shirts and jeans smoking pot, drinking alcohol and pouring out onto the playing field between games, and general nonsense. Yes, I was there, but I didn't run onto the field, though I almost fell off a railing that I was sitting on above one of the indoor ramps. I brought in a copy of Peter Brown's "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" as my record to be blown up. The buses from the Southwest side to Sox Park were full of partying kids; it was like we were all going to a Zepplin concert, not a baseball game. As I walked in the park, I looked around at the hoards of my shouting cohorts, the billows of pot smoke and the spilled beer and I thought "This is what hell must be like." Not to mention the clothes and the shag hairstyles--we're talking about South Side kids in 1979, not those punk/new wave North Siders.

And the day job search continues. Today I felt like Hank Hill fielding a call from an omnipresent Twig Boy, the other day it was a himbo on the other end of the phone. Once again, I feel am being forced to make a living as a writer 'cuz getting an office job is too damn hard. Wait...isn't it supposed to be the other way around? In other news, my Prey For Rock & Roll DVD review is up on Suite101.com-Rock Music. http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/9756/109799
Ya know, I think I have a crush on Gina Gershon. Now don't get all frantic, I said "crush" which is kind of a silly, non-sexual infatuation if ya think about it. I updated the Indie1031 page so the most recent entry is at the top of the page & added a few links to the erotica link page, including Fleshbot.com, a site w/ sex and celebrity news which is as funny as it is sexy.

Can you guess which quote is from a Cheech & Chong movie and which one is not? Free copy of "Close But No Pizza" my poetry e-book to the first (only?) person answering this one. Seriously. jade@jadeblackmore.com

a)"You are not seeing any goddamn long-haired metal bands til you get a fucking job."

b)"You get a job before sundown or we're shipping you off to military school with that goddamn Finkelstein shit kid"

A few days ago, I read an article about Janet Jackson performing at some show affiliated with the Gay Pride Parade in NYC. Her between song banter included the coy revelation that she is a "bottom." (A BDSM term.) Now, for the past 10-12 years all her songs and stage antics have involved sex, sex being tied up, and sex. "Control" and "Rhythm Nation' were sassy, then it all got stuck in XXX gear. Maybe if she branched out and got her mind outta the bedroom once in awhile, we could have avoided the Super Bowl fiasco. Ain't nothing wrong with singing or writing about sex. It's just that once in awhile, you need to give it a breather and think about something else. One of my favorite articles about Janet appeared in the National Review in January. Nicole Gelinas tells it like it is...

Well, two more day job interviews today. I tell you, it's all a blur at this point. One was on Sunset by the House of Blues, so at least the surrounding sights were nice. Then I went on another interview in Mid-Wilshire, for yet another publisher. Troy and I went grocery shopping together for the first time in months, and I swear it's like a comedy routine. We can't just put food in the damn shopping cart. Then when we get home... I suddenly thought of that old Loundon Wainwright song DEAD SKUNK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I didn't see it, but you can smell it a mile away. I can't really describe the smell to you-it's not even like rotting garbage. It's way worse. Skunks are indigenous to Hollywood, and not just the human kind. Speaking of which, after getting a gander of the extra-large album cover on the side of Tower records touting Gene Simmon's new CD, I thought "OMG!! A sales rep I worked for looks just like that, except for the black toupee." Seriously. Hey, at least Gene is honest about his skulduggery; can't say the same for the sales rep.

She just keeps going and going and going...like the Eveready bunny..

It's so sunny and beautiful here and I'm stuck by the computer. UGH!
But I did finish my interview questions for Romantic Interludes. I was a good girl-no "in" jokes or smart ass comments. "Cougar's Luck" is almost finished for real this time. The missing puzzle piece came to me a few days ago when I was thinking about Dinsdale Piranha (Monty Python reference) and the ensuing plot ties things up nicely. I put another poem up in the erotica section today and updated the Indie1031 page. Here are some more rock 'n' roll links:

OH!! If you wanna find rock stars in L.A., go to Home Depot at odd hours. Preferably the ones close to Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills, places like that. TRUST ME ON THIS.

Went downtown yesterday to interview for a job, and I did more walking between 9 and 10 a.m. then I've since the accident. Nice to know not much has changed, though I did find out they pulled out the payphones at the Hollywood/Vine subway station. Got another interview on Monday which proves exactly how small the publishing world is. In a good way, I hope, but I'll find out Monday. Tell ya about it after the fact.

I will be a featured erotica author on Romantic Interludes' fledgling edition this July. Web address: http://www.rominterludes.com/
I'm also working on a story for a fetish site. It's been awhile since I've
delved into that territory, and a lot of people liked "Cherry Delight" so much I'm sticking with the footwear theme. This time, riding boots are featured instead of high-heels.

From "The Onion" The plot and the prose in this "erotic horror screenplay" is shockingly similar to the work of some real erotic horror stories.

Guys, a word of advice. No matter how poor or hard up you are for a job, NEVER EVER work for an extremely small publisher owned by an eccentric individual. Large corporations owned by bastards are fine. It's the passive-aggressive types that'll get ya every time. Don't make the same mistake I did. And calling the labor board in the state of CA is a bitch. It took me two days of redialing to get through.

I'm starting a "fan" page for Indie 103.1. First it was gonna be just a Jonesy's Jukebox page, but there are so many other good shows on the station now, that it's just going to cover it all. Billy Zoom is the guest on "Complete Control" as I type this. Check the non-fiction page. A preliminary version will be up tomorrow morning. Also, in other R & R news....
Johnny Ramone is leaving the hospital tomorrow
Velvet Revolver cancelled their show in Austin tonight. Scott has a throat infection. So that's the third show on this short tour that's been postponed/rescheduled.

I posted my Velvet Revolver review in "Non-Fiction," (halfway down the page.) It will appear in a slightly different version on RC in the near future.

Ok, just wanted to give you guys a quickie comment on the Velvet Revolver show on Tuesday. (The "real" semi-professional one will be up later on Rock Confidential or Modamag, I'll have more about the show on the weblog tomorrow.) Ya know, a few weeks before the show at the Wiltern, I started keeping track of what people who'd already seen the band in other cities had to say via various messageboards. Many folks had this "show me" attitude and didn't seem like they were expecting too much. Then after they's seen the show, the posts were unanimous. "This band is amazing live. You must see them." This is kinda unusual, even with the best live shows, you usually find a few dissenters complaining about something. After seeing the band Tuesday, I have to join the crowd. You HAVE to see VR live. For years now, people have yapped about "Oh, when is real rock 'n' roll going to come back?" Stop yer whining, it's here.

For the first time since the accident in October, I spent most the day outdoors. OH GOD IT WAS WONDERFUL!! The sunshine, the blue sky, the mountains. It's going to be extremely hard for me to sit on my butt and write, indoors, staring at a computer screen now that I've had this taste of freedom. I'll do it when I have to, though. Working intensely on Computerdivas and other PR projects. I return to "Cougar's Luck" this week. A friend of mine suggested I wrap it up using my 'mainstream" voice. That's the only way the Penny & Reggie & Janine subplot will get resolved properly. 'Sides, I need to finish my romances so I can get "Parallel Lives" finished and published. That story is near and dear to my heart. The culmination of 20 odd (and I do mean odd) years in the rock 'n' roll biz, what can I say.

Just added a new story "Use What Ya Got." to the "Erotica" section. It highlights the tough decisions one has to make when indulging in a tawdry escapade with a sexy guy from the office (or the office down the way.)

Not much going on here the past 24 hours. I'm still sending out resumes like crazy to find a day job, or at least temp office work. I am thoroughly convinced it is easier to get a starring role in a sitcom in L.A. than to get a cheesy 9 to 5 office job for an entertainment or publishing company here. Hey, maybe I could go audition for a reality show or something. Oh, here's a good one. A friend of mine decided he's going to audition for a new reality show for overweight people trying to slim down. WHEN WILL THE INSANITY END? Probably never. If you thought that show "The Swan" was bad, check out
http://awfulplasticsurgery.com. God forbid I should ever meet some of these celebrities in person. A Martian would be scared of 'em! My friend Cathy entered a beauty contest in NYC for women over 40 and she told me she was shocked by the amount of plastic surgery most of the women had, women only in their early or mid-40s. As long as plastic surgeons are raking in the dough, they won't stop. The procedures will only get more radical. And what are the "Swan" women going to do when they start overeating or when their facelifts droop? Unless Fox is paying for touch-up plastic surgery and liposuction in perpetuity, they're in trouble.

It's Memorial Day weekend already-who'd thunk it? It's been a busy half year around here, needless to say. The second half promises to be more hectic. I now have a business e-mail at Computer Divas.com. It's marianne@computerdivas.com. I'm currently pitching articles about the company to potential markets. If you're interested in featuring an article about a female-owned business sassing up the geeky computer industry, contact me at the above e-mail.

Don't bother with the "explanative" comments. Those of you who watched the Frontline piece on "Why The Music Industry Sucks" will get that. I've already sent out e-mails with the subject line "I Am In Agreeance About the Explanatives," so I beat you to it. Every 15 years or so, there's a TV documentary on how insipid and evil the music industry is. (This is news?) The best one was in '73 or '74 on CBS, with Mick Jagger as one of the interviewees. For this one, the best they could do was another Hudson brother's offspring (Sarah, Mark's daughter) and Velvet Revolver. When they first announced it, I thought "Why can't they interview a real band that's trying to make it instead of rich people?" That would have made an interesting juxtaposition to the ready-made supergroup and nepostism angles. C'mon, we know Sarah didn't get in the record company offices because an exec discovered her busking in the subway. It was kinda frustrating to listen to her songs and then see the clip of soft porn star/lip syncer Britney. Nepotism aside, at least Sarah Hudson can actually sing and write songs and it's doubtful she'll even get a song on the Billboard charts.
It was also nice to see Bobbi Fleckman and Sir Denis Easton Hogg are still around, now with S-Curve Records or whatever that company was called. To complete the Spinal Tap references, I suppose Duff & Matt were filling in for Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls.

I am slowly getting back to work, although the past two weeks have been hard and I still have trouble sleeping. My friend Cathy Spencer in New York has helped me immensely with advice and comforting words. I am the Director of Public Relations for her new business, Computerdivas.com http://www.computerdivas.com. The company is based in New York City and offers computer networking and e-mail solutions for business, with an emphasis on the creative and entertainment community. Computer Divas serves New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

UK's Diverse Publications has accepted some of my erotic poetry for a future edition of either "The Erotic Poetry Society's Publication"" or "The International Journal of Erotica." I am especially honored to be featured in one of their publications, as they are one of the classiest erotica publishers in the world.

Did any of you see Velvet Revolver on Letterman last night? They were better than I thought they'd be. Yes, I know "Slither" isn't an instant rock classic, but it's fun. Would you rather listen to Blink 182? I woulda liked it more if Matt and Duff had their shirts off, but you know CBS has been kinda nervous since that Janet Jackson Superbowl thing. I'm seeing them at the Wiltern on the 8th, so I'll have a full review then. Also seeing X and the Weirdos in June and then in July, Weird Al at the Orange County Fair.

Right now I'm listening to the heavy metal show ("Chaos") on Indie 103.1. Lonn Friend is hosting and they just played Pantera and Motorhead. Aah, just like 1991 all over again. Which reminds me, where's my old copy of RIP with Sebastian Bach on the cover? My radio day started with Johnny B. on Arrow 93. Only caught the last few minutes. He was talking about the Anaheim Angels getting sick after eating White Castles on the road. Then Johnny Ramone joined Steve on "Jonesy's Jukebox." Can you believe it? Three entertaining radio shows in L.A. in one day!

Last week, my beloved mother passed away suddenly. I am still in shock. She was a beautiful, creative woman who had a difficult life for a variety of reasons. I remember her keen wit, her incredible artistic talent, her intelligence and the way she encouraged me to pursue my creative goals. My brothers and I said good-bye to her on Tuesday. I know that she is at peace now. I love you, Mama.

"Our real self, the soul, is immortal. We may sleep for a little while in that change called death, but we can never be destroyed. We exist, and that existence is eternal. The wave comes to the shore, and then goes back to the sea; it is not lost. It becomes one with the ocean, or returns again in the form of another wave. This body has come, and it will vanish, but the soul within it will never cease to exist."

New article up on Suite101-Rock Music

It's been 10 years since Kurt Cobain's death, and while the controversy lingers, the music and the memories supercede them. Here are some of my thoughts on the matter.
